Centre for Sociological and Anthropological Research conducts fundamental and applied research in sociology, politics, gender studies, sociology of religion, sociology of social movements and studies of public administration and public policies. The Centre continuously realises research projects concerning discrimination of minority groups, political participation and representation in parliamentary democracy, characteristics of male and female leadership, the role and importance of the feminist movement, structural changes and transformation of Serbia in the context of its EU integration process, as well as religious phenomena in institutional and non-institutional forms in post-conflict societies.
The main research subject of “Religion and Society” research group are changes in the status of religion in post-transitional societies, and transformation of religious identities and religious organisations in the context of social changes. The Centre has developed an interdisciplinary international network for researching religion, and in cooperation with the Forum for Religious Issues, it organises annual international sociological-religious conferences at Silver Lake (Srebrno Jezero).
The “Gender and Politics” research group is dedicated to researching structural changes and perception of the concepts of gender equality and gender politics. A wider goal is to prepare theoretical and methodological platform for further research in the field of changes in gender norms, gender regimes and gender politics, while the narrower one would be to detect transformative potential of certain structural factors that directly, or indirectly influence the patterns of conceptualisation and operationalization of the gender equality dimension in social sciences research.
The Department for Anthropology researches current issues concerning anthropological theory, history of anthropology and political anthropology. The department is oriented to interdisciplinary research which connects anthropology with sociology and other related social sciences and humanities.
