Centre for Economic Research

The Centre for Economic Research deals with theoretical and empirical research, as well as studying of the economic reality in Serbia.

The theoretical research deals with the systems of open market economy, transition, globalization, regional development, labour market and economic inequalities, human resources management and international economy.  Applied research is oriented towards programmes, methods, models of privatisation, assessment of the value of capital, investment programmes, business plans, regional development analyses, labour market and economic inequality analyses, poverty and social policy.

Aims of the Centre for Economic Research refer to implementing research in different fields of economic sciences: labour market and economic inequality, poverty, unemployment, foreign trade market, balance of payment analysis, foreign currency exchange rates, human resources management, economic policy and development, financial stability. One of the aims refers to permanent professional improvement of the researchers and stimulating creativity and innovation in all fields of research. Analyses, studies and projects are implemented in order to facilitate a comprehensive understanding of contemporary economic problems and stimulate economic growth.

The Centre for Economic Research (CER) was founded in 1957 as the Department for Economic Sciences. The CER has been managed by Voja Rakić (1958–1961), Zoran Pjanić (1962–1964), Ivan Maksimović (1965–1966), Smiljan Jurin (1966–1968), Milivoje Trklja (1969–1973), Mirko Jamnik (1974–1982), Milan Šojić (1982–1990), Danilo Šuković (1990–2015), Predrag Petrović (2015–2021) and Predrag Jovanović (since 2021).
