As part of the cycle of lectures by new researchers at the Institute of Social Sciences, Ivan Potić, a Research Associate from the Centre for Demographic Research, held a lecture on May 8, 2025 in the Great Hall of the Institute of Social Sciences on the topic „Geospatial Data Collection and Landscape Valorisation: Methods, Applications, and Analytical Approaches“.
This lecture presents methodological approaches and applied case studies from the field of geosciences and geospatial studies. The case studies focus on processes of geospatial data collection, processing, and quality control, primarily based on remote sensing methods – LiDAR technology, UAV platforms, and satellite imagery. Also, it was pointed out that maps, plans and reports, as well as field data collection, are used as secondary sources of data collection. Special attention is given to accuracy assessment and data validation procedures within the GIS environment. After successful data validation, further processing and analysis are carried out. The central part of the lecture will address spatial analysis and landscape valorisation through multi-criteria GIS analysis, where the landscape is perceived as a complex system of natural and social elements. The lecture will emphasis the importance of integrating diverse data sources and analytical approaches in spatial planning and decision-making processes. At the end of the lecture, the importance of the obtained data in the spatial analysis of the population and dasymetric mapping was highlighted.
