As part of the activities of the Society of Demographers of Serbia, a series of online panel discussions under the name Demografisanje is organized. The idea is to bring demographers and researchers from related disciplines together once a month via the Zoom online platform and exchange ideas, theoretical thoughts, and experiences from the field or data processing i.e.
As part of the eighth „Demografisanje“ (the online panel dedicated to exchange of views and experiences) held on February 29. the project „International Student Migration in the Serbian Context and (Re)Construction of Identity: Main Issues and Inputs for Policy Making“ (IS-MIGaIN), financed by the Science Fund of the Republic of Serbia within the IDENTITY call, was presented.
The concept of the project, activities, and results achieved so far were presented by Dr. Vesna Lukić, Principal Research Fellow of the Institute of Social Sciences, the principal investigator of the Project.
Speaking about the IS-MIGaIN project, Vesna Lukić stated the theoretical-methodological framework of the research, the objective, the research questions, and the project structure shown through the work packages. She particularly emphasized the expected scientific and social significance of the project results.
It was emphasized that the empirical research that has been carried out as part of the project is in the third phase, while the first two phases (focus group research and survey) have been successfully implemented. The collected survey data is being prepared for the analysis.
According to Lukić, certain scientific results of the project are already available. Namely, as part of the 4th issue of the Sociološki pregled magazine, a thematic block titled: “International migration and mobility of students: lessons learned and opportunities for improvement” was published, where the guest editor is from the IS-MIGaIN project team. This thematic block also contains two articles written by the authors collaborating on the project, which are the result of research conducted during the realization of the presented project.
At the very end of the presentation, upcoming project activities in the near future were highlighted, including the participation of project team members in five international conferences, as well as the workshop “International academic mobility from the student’s perspective: Potentials and challenges”, that will be held on March 19 at the Faculty of Philosophy in Novi Sad.
