On May 24, 2019, the Institute of Social Sciences held a discussion on the work of Milan Brdar titled Self-determination and Foundation. Milan Brdar is a research advisor at the Institute of Social Sciences, with his main interests being the history and sociology of ideas, methodology in philosophy, and geopolitics. The discussion presented Brdar’s life’s work, which includes fifteen books focused on social and philosophical issues. The initiative for the discussion came from Natalia Mićunović, a research associate at the Center for Philosophy of the Institute, and it was organized to mark Brdar’s retirement, though the primary inspiration for the event was to introduce Brdar’s work to the public.
The discussion was opened by Vladimir Milisavljević, research advisor at the Institute of Social Sciences. Afterward, the welcoming speech was given by Vojin Rakić, full professor and director of the Center for Philosophy at the Institute of Social Sciences. According to him, the defining feature of Brdar’s work is the depth of thought. The first part of the discussion featured four other speakers: Mr. Zoran Obrenović, Časlav Koprivica, a professor at the Faculty of Political Science, Marinko Lolić, a research associate at the Institute of Social Sciences, and Vladimir Milisavljević, who presented Milan Brdar’s work and highlighted its most significant ideas. The second part of the discussion was comprised of a speech by Milan Brdar and a discussion with participants and guests. The Director of the Institute of Social Sciences, Goran Bašić, also joined the discussion and congratulated Brdar on his achievements.
