This year’s issue of the Bulletin of the World Association for Medical Law is dedicated to the state of regulation and the perspectives of developing positive legislation in the Republic of Serbia, as well as issues related to the analysis of case law in the field of healthcare and medical law, with a primary focus on the protection of mental health. Issues of prevention, protection, and the promotion of mental health are a priority in international, European, and comparative law, especially in the years following the pandemic, as well as in the context of digital transition.
The editor of this issue is Hajrija Mujović, a Senior Research Fellow at the Center for Legal Research of the Institute of Social Sciences, who, as the author of the article on the perspectives of mental health protection in Serbia from the aspect of medical law, along with collaborators from the Center, Marta Sjeničić, Sanja Zlatanović, and Ranko Sovilj, addressed the issues of tackling the field of mental health from a multidisciplinary perspective, in the context of insufficient prioritization in public discourse, and especially the incomplete regulation in domestic law. Additionally, colleagues from the medical profession and experts in the field of mental health joined the team of authors – the Bulletin of the World Association for Medical Law.
The Bulletin critically examines and analyzes issues related to the protection of mental health, focusing on the following topics: the perspectives of mental health protection in Serbia from the viewpoint of medical law, the legal and organizational framework for establishing community mental health services, the role and significance of artificial intelligence in the context of mental health in Serbia, the application of medical security measures in legislative frameworks and clinical practice, healthcare for children with malignancies and issues related to mental health, as well as the protection of mental health in the workplace – safety and health at work perspective. The authors highlight the importance of comprehensive regulation of mental health protection issues in Serbia, as well as the necessity of applying an integrative and holistic approach in this area.
