А workshop for policymakers and decision-makers “International academic migration – towards a positive experience for students” was held on September 18, 2024, at the Institute of Social Sciences.
On behalf of the Ministry of Education, the assistant to the Minister of Education for International Cooperation Dr. Aleksandar Jović welcomed the participants of the workshop, emphasizing the importance of the topics of the workshop for the Ministry of Education.
According to the principal investigator of the IS-MIGaIN project, Dr. Vesna Lukić, the project team’s ambition is that the project results have both scientific and wider social significance. Hence, based on the findings of the empirical research conducted within the project, this workshop enabled the exchange of experiences and ideas that should contribute to the formulation of recommendations to improve the cooperation of actors of different levels of management, regarding the connection between international academic migration and identity.
In the working part, two topics were discussed, important for overcoming the challenges of international students studying in Serbia, namely: insufficient knowledge of the Serbian language and socio-cultural integration of international students.
Besides members of the project team, representatives of the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the University of Belgrade, faculties, the City Assembly of Novi Sad, the Municipal Assembly of Zemun, the Municipality of Savski venac, the student organization of the “World in Serbia” project, and cultural institutions of the City of Belgrade participated in the workshop.
The workshop is part of the activities of the scientific research project “International Student Migration in the Serbian Context and (Re)Construction of Identity: Main Issues and Inputs for Policy Making“ (IS-MIGaIN), financed by the Science Fund of the Republic of Serbia as part of the Identity call (grant 1434).
