In the organization of the Institute of Social Sciences and the Institute of Philosophy and Social Theory, on 2 and 3 November 2022, the Research Network Gender and Politics in Southeast Europe (GenPolSEE) was founded. It is aimed to foster research on gender and political representation from a feminist perspective in the Balkans and Southeast Europe.
More than 30 researchers from Serbia, Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Albania, Slovenia and other European countries participated in the founding meeting.
During the first working day, presentations by invited eminent colleagues, two panel discussions on the political representation of women and the current situation in the field of gender studies and research were held. On the second day, a workshop was held on the future directions and positioning of the GenPolSEE in the region.
The working language is English and the program of activities and basic guidelines of the work will be established in the next few weeks. The founding meeting of the GenPolSEE was financially supported by the Heinrich Bὄll Stiftung.
The GenPolSEE will be dedicated to the exchange of knowledge and research experience, the promotion of feminist methodology and connecting with international expertise, networks and platforms that support theoretical and empirical research of an innovative and transformative issues. The thematic research focus of the GenPolSEE involves the following issues: gender and representation (critical actors, social movements, intersectionality), gender and institutions (parliaments, political parties, executive, institutional mechanisms for gender equality) and gender and public policy (inclusive policy making, accountability, gender mainstreaming).
