The Round Table Serbia’s accession to ESS ERIC was held on October 27 2022 at the Institute of Social Sciences with great interest of both the scientific and public policy makers community.
The main topic of the Round Table was how strengthening the research infrastructure contributes to achieving the state of a strong, confident and publicly positioned social science research community that meaningfully contributes to socio-economic and political reform processes.
Round table participants Mr. Georg Lutz (FORS), Mr. Bernd Steimann, (Helvetas), Mr. Martin Dietz (Helvetas), Mr. Richard Kohli (SDC) Ms. Djurić Jovičić (Science Fund of RS), Mr. Bernard Fabianek (EC) and Ms. Zafirović (ISS) presented their point of view on the benefits that Serbia obtained by joining ESS ERIC – the possibility to achieve and spread higher standards of rigor in cross-national research in the social sciences; to improve the visibility and outreach of data on social change among academics, policy makers and the wider public etc.
They all agreed that Serbia’s full membership in ESS-ERIC had been a huge success for the social sciences in the country, and a posthumous gratification for PERFORM poject, but: „To secure this success and reap more benefits in the future, however, the government, social sciences, and the international community need to stay alert and continue to engage in various dimensions“ (Bernd Steimann quote).
The European Social Survey (ESS) is part of the European Research Infrastructure Consortium (ERIC).
