The Institute of Social Sciences is organizing a round table entitled „Sexual Harassment: From Theory and Understanding to Support for Victims“ on September 26 starting at 11:15. The aim of the round table is to gather representatives of the academic community and the civil sector interested in the study of violence against women with a focus on the issue of sexual harassment as a form of gender-based violence, in different contexts.
Sexual violence is today recognized as a form of violation of women’s human rights and a global health problem that leaves physical and psychological consequences for women who suffer violence, but also for society in the world. Sexual violence refers to various behaviors, from verbal or non-verbal harassment to rape, which can occur in different contexts – in real life, or through technology. Research into sexual violence shows that no social sphere is “immune” to sexual violence, i.e. that it happens everywhere, in the private and public sphere.
Addressing these problems, some of the topics we want to discuss at the round table are the phenomenon of sexual violence, different theoretical perspectives in the study of different forms of violence, legal regulation and recognition of sexual violence in the judicial system of the Republic of Serbia, research into sexual harassment in different social contexts, the needs of victims after sexual violence, etc.
