Meeting of the Academic Network for Cooperation in Southeast Europe

Human rights, rights of national and ethnic minorities, policies of multiculturalism and social inclusion are increasingly in the focus of social changes, and less and less on the political agenda of international organizations and states. Despite the suffering of people in modern conflicts, which largely affect multicultural and interreligious relations, there is less and less interest in identity issues that are important to people in the current undignified and dramatic situations. The “death of multiculturalism” proclaimed at the beginning of the century is becoming an everyday occurrence.

These topics, but also issues of monitoring the implementation of human and minority rights in public policies in the countries of the Western Balkans and neighboring regions, were discussed at the AMSJIE meeting held in Ljubljana from June 12th–14th 2025 at the Institute for Ethnic Affairs, which this year marks its centenary.
