The Institute of Social Sciences and the Academic Network for Cooperation in Southeastern Europe, in collaboration with the Advisory Committee for the Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities of the Council of Europe, are organizing an international scientific conference dedicated to monitoring minority rights.
The conference is being held on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the entry into force of the Framework Convention.
The strengthening of multiculturalism and the protection of ethno-cultural identities owe much to the Framework Convention’s success in the early 21st century. However, in contemporary conditions, after some states have announced the “death” of multiculturalism, the multicultural habitus is once again vulnerable.
Faced with the rise of nationalism, xenophobic populism, and the strengthening of autocracies, many European indigenous identities are confronting challenges that have been seen before. Support for the multicultural concept and policies is more essential than ever, and monitoring minority rights is a significant tool in preserving multiculturalism.
Representatives of the Council of Europe, representatives of state authorities of the Republic of Serbia, and above all, members of the Advisory Committee for the Framework Convention and scholars from European academic centers are participating in the conference.
