Biography

Marko Filipović was born in 1983 in Kragujevac, Republic of Serbia. He enrolled in undergraduate studies in 2002 at the University of Belgrade, Faculty of Geography, Department of Demography. He defended his graduation thesis in 2006 and, in the same year, enrolled in postgraduate academic–master studies at the Faculty of Geography, Department of Demography. He completed his master’s degree in 2010 and enrolled in PhD academic studies at the University of Belgrade, Faculty of Geography, Department of Geosciences. He defended his PhD dissertation, “The Daily Migration System of Belgrade,” in 2020 and earned the academic title of PhD of Geosciences.
He was a scholarship holder of the Fund for Young Talents (2005/2006), as well as of the Ministry of Science and Environmental Protection of the Government of the Republic of Serbia (Sustainable Spatial Development of Serbian Cities – TR 6500) at the Institute of Architecture and Urbanism of Serbia in 2007/2008. Since 2011, he has been employed at the Geographical Institute “Jovan Cvijić” of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts (SASA). He earned the title of Research Associate in 2021. Since November 2025, he has been employed at the Center for Demographic Research of the Institute of Social Sciences in Belgrade.
Throughout his career, he has participated in domestic and international projects, among the most significant being: “Deliver sAfe and Social Housing—DASH” (2023–) and “Geography of Serbia” (No. III 47007, Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development of the Republic of Serbia). He is also an author and lecturer in professional development programs for teachers, accredited by the Institute for the Improvement of Education. He has undergone further professional training at the Centre d’Estudis Demogràfics (CED), Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, among others.
Scholarships, fellowships, grants
Since 2023, he has been a member of the research team of the international scientific project “Deliver sAfe and Social Housing (DASH),” funded by the Horizon Europe Research and Innovation Programme of the European Union within the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (grant agreement No. 101086488).

Work in education
