Women’s Archive – Writing Modern Women’s History and Recreating Culture of Unpublished Autobiographies

At the Institute of Social Sciences on October 7, 2019, Dr. Monika Rudaś-Grodzka, Dr. Katarzyna Nadana-Sokołowska, and Dr. Emilia Kolinko held a lecture titled Women’s Archive – Writing Modern Women’s History and Recreating Culture of Unpublished Autobiographies as part of the “New Perspectives, Gender Theory Research, and Public Policy” series, organized by the Study and Research Group for Gender Equality and Public Policy at the Institute of Social Sciences.

The lecture presented the Women’s Archive project, which has been ongoing since 2013 at the Institute of Literature of the Polish Academy of Sciences. The project aims to create a database and initiate a digital archive of unpublished writings by women who lived in the territory of Poland from the 16th century to the present day. It is motivated by the desire to preserve various documents written by women that depict different aspects of Polish culture, female identity and its origins, as well as women’s relationships and activities. This is crucial to understand, particularly through first-person accounts.
