On October 16, 2019, Prof. Dr. Vesna Nikolić-Ristanović delivered a lecture titled “Violence Against Women and Education at Higher Education Institutions in Serbia” at the Institute of Social Sciences. Vesna Nikolić-Ristanović is a full professor at the Faculty of Special Education and Rehabilitation at the University of Belgrade and the director of the Victimology Society of Serbia. This lecture was the third in the “New Perspectives, Gender Theory Research, and Public Policy” series, organized by the Study and Research Group for Gender Equality and Public Policy at the Institute of Social Sciences.
The lecture presented the development and current situation regarding the place of the issue of violence against women in the curriculum at higher education institutions in Serbia. The results of a qualitative study conducted by the lecturer on a sample of faculties from the University of Belgrade, Niš, and Novi Sad were shared. Based on the research findings, conclusions were drawn regarding the changes that have occurred in the past 20 years, as well as the adequacy of education on violence against women provided to future professionals in Serbia. This education is aimed at ensuring appropriate responses to combat violence, prevent it, and protect victims.
