Survey: Ethnic Social Distance in Serbia – 2025

Five years later, the Institute of Social Sciences has launched a new wave of longitudinal research on the social integration of national minorities in Serbia. This study is conducted every five years and explores public opinion on interethnic relations, social connectedness, and experiences of discrimination.

The 2025 cycle aims to track changes in citizens’ attitudes, perceptions, and experiences related to ethnicity and integration. It focuses on the level of everyday social contact between the majority population and national minorities (Albanians, Bosniaks, Croats, Hungarians, Roma, Romanians, and Slovaks), with special attention to the lived experiences of minority communities.

Findings from the previous study pointed to numerous challenges, but also highlighted opportunities to improve interethnic relations. The new wave of research will make it possible to compare data over time and better assess the impact of past policies and initiatives.
