Regional Conference on “New Directions in Philosophy of Mind and Cognitive Science” Held at the Institute of Social Sciences

On September 26 and 27, 2025, the Institute of Social Sciences hosted the regional conference “New Directions in Philosophy of Mind and Cognitive Science”.

The event gathered 17 researchers from the Institute of Social Sciences and other domestic scientific institutions, as well as colleagues from Republic of Srpska, Croatia, Portugal, and Japan.

Across four sessions over two days, 15 presentations were delivered, sparking extensive discussion on the nature of consciousness and cognition, as well as their disorders. The discussions were highly interdisciplinary, involving philosophers, linguists, psychologists, and psychiatrists.

This scientific meeting attracted considerable interest from both the research community and the broader public. Its clear significance as a platform for exchanging scientific knowledge and experience has prompted the organizers to announce the potential for this event to serve as the first in a series of similar gatherings, aimed at bringing together experts from diverse disciplines to share insights on cutting-edge issues in philosophy of mind and cognitive science.

This event was organized by the Institute of Social Sciences and the Institute of Philosophy at the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Belgrade, with support from the Association for Philosophy and History of Science “Episteme”.
