Quantitative Research on Sexual Violence Against Female University Students

The project „Quantitative Research on Sexual Violence Against Female University Students“ was motivated by the fact that sexual violence represents one of the most serious global public health issues, with severe physical, psychological, and social consequences for women. Our project focused on understanding this problem, with a particular emphasis on the university environment, to contribute to the creation of spaces free from discrimination and violence.

The first step in the project was a literature review, during which we analyzed quantitative studies on the prevalence, risk factors, and support systems related to sexual violence in educational institutions. These findings allowed us to develop precise and relevant research instruments.

Next, we conducted a survey targeting female university students to collect data on their experiences, perceptions, and reactions to sexual harassment. The analysis of the collected data provided key insights into the scope and nature of this issue, enabling us to better understand the specific challenges women face in academic settings.

The final phase of the project was the organization of a roundtable titled „Sexual Harassment: From Theory and Understanding to Victim Support“. This event brought together academic researchers, experts, and relevant stakeholders. During the forum, the research findings were presented, strategies for addressing sexual violence were exchanged, and the importance of evidence-based methodological approaches was emphasized.

Through these activities, the project not only contributed to a deeper understanding of sexual violence in universities and workplaces but also opened a space for dialogue on effective prevention and response strategies.

The project was led by Jelena Riznić, a junior researcher at the Center for Sociological and Anthropological Research.

The project was approved under the internal call for the “Seed” Research Grant Program within the SAIGE  (Serbia Accelerating Innovation and Growth Entrepreneurship) project.
