As part of the lecture series “New Views, Perspectives and Research on Gender Theory” of the Study Research Group for Gender Equality and Public Policy of the Institute of Social Sciences, Dr. Margareta Bašaragin held the lecture on “Gender Sensitive Language in Official Use: a method of intersectionality”. The event was held oline on 7 April 2021.
Dr. Bašaragin focused her lecture on the issue of standardization of gender sensitive language in official use. In her conclusion, she pointed out that gender sensitive language does not only mean the consistent application of the feminine grammatical gender when naming female persons, their occupations and titles, but that the issue is much broader. This issue includes the ways in which the language is used to eliminate various forms of discrimination that occur in language, as well as those forms that contribute to greater visibility of women and their contribution to society, science, culture, art and other fields.
