Gender Impact Assessment of Laws and Public Policies

Marking the International Day of Women, 8 March, Dr. Mirjana Dokmanović, Research Associate, Institute of Social Sciences, gave a lecture on “Gender Impact Assessment of Laws and Public Policies”. She presented how this tool contributes to mainstream gender in legislation and public policies. The ex ante analysis of the effects of regulation and strategies on gender relations and gender equality eliminates their possible discriminatory and negative effects on women, with particular focus on vulnerable groups. Dr. Dokmanović stressed the importance and need for the application of this instrument in order to prevent discrimination and improve the position of women in the Republic of Serbia.

Fifteen researchers and members of the Center for Women’s Studies from Belgrade, Women’s Studies from Novi Sad, the OSCE, the office of the Commissioner for the Protection of Equality, the Institute of Social Sciences and gender equality experts participated in this event.

The event was organised as a part of the lecture series “New Views, Perspectives and Research on Gender Theory” of the Study Research Group for Gender Equality and Public Policy of the Institute of Social Sciences.
