Final Event of the SICHWEB Project

On Thursday, April 23, 2025, the final event of the research project  Serbian Intangible Cultural Heritage in the Western Balkans: Perils and Prospects of Inclusive Research and Safeguarding (SICHWEB) was held at the Faculty of Philosophy in Belgrade. The project was jointly implemented by the University of Belgrade – Faculty of Philosophy,  Institute of Social Sciences (IDN), and the Institute of Ethnography of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts (SANU), with support from the Science Fund of the Republic of Serbia through the “Identities” program. At the event’s opening, Dr Marta Sjeničić, Deputy Director of the Institute of Social Sciences, emphasised the importance of interdisciplinary and inter-institutional cooperation. The event featured presentations of the project’s key activities and results, including many articles in leading peer-reviewed journals and policy recommendations for stakeholders.

The event was an opportunity to discuss the future development of inclusive models for safeguarding intangible cultural heritage. Among the contributors was Dr Marko Milenković, Senior Research Associate at IDN, a member of the SICHWEB research team, and leader of the work package Bilateral Disputes – EU Accession Consequences. As part of the program, a panel was also dedicated to the book by the project principal investigator, Prof. Dr Miloš Milenković, Intangible Cultural Heritage and Reconciliation in the Western Balkans: An Anthropological Perspective (Routledge, 2024). The panel provided a platform for critical reflection on heritage in the context of regional cooperation, identity politics, and reconciliation processes.
