RESEARCH TITLE

European Social Survey in Serbia, waves 9 and 10 (ESS9 & ESS10)

RESEARCH FIELD

Social attitudes

RESEARCH SUBJECT

Attitudes of citizens pertaining to different social and political subjects, in a comparative perspective.

PROBLEM

The European Social Survey (ESS) is an academically driven cross-national survey that has been conducted across Europe since its establishment in 2001. Every two years, face-to-face interviews are conducted with newly selected, cross-sectional samples. The survey measures the attitudes, beliefs and behaviour patterns of diverse populations in more than thirty nations.

RESEARCH

The Serbian ESS9 survey (data collection) was conducted during 2018, and ESS10 in late 2021 and early 2022. The ESS9 survey was conducted using the face-to-face method with the help of a computer (CAPI), while the ESS10 was based on self-completion of the questionnaire via the Internet. Respondents who did not want, or could not fill out the questionnaire online, received printed questionnaires. In both waves, the samples were selected by randomly sampling households, with the help of the data provided by the Statistical Office of Serbia.

RESULT

The ESS data are available free of charge for non-commercial use and can be downloaded from the ESS data portal. The ESS9 and ESS10 data for Serbia are integral parts of the aggregate ESS data.
